Detroit Future City

Detroit Future City (DFC) is a non-profit organization that functions as a think tank, policy advocate, and planning organization with a primary focus on improving Detroit. Founded in 2015, DFC is committed to advancing the quality of life for all Detroiters through data-driven strategies that promote the advancement of land use, sustainability, and community and economic development. The organization's mission revolves around the shared vision of the Strategic Framework, a 50-year plan for the City of Detroit developed with input from over 100,000 Detroiters.

DFC's role is to steward equitable implementation of the recommendations made in the Strategic Framework by providing access and information to Detroiters, informing and guiding decision-makers’ initiatives and projects, and coordinating a multitude of stakeholders. The organization's approach involves stewarding the DFC Strategic Framework recommendations, advocating for innovative approaches and policies, integrating civic awareness and community participation, and ensuring racial equity in all practices.

DFC operates based on core principles that include being aspirational where necessary and practical where required, respecting the city’s history, community efforts, and new ideas, seeking to create benefits for all in a just and equitable manner, and being transparent and inclusive of all voices participating in improving the community.
