Des Moines Performing Arts is central Iowa’s premier not-for-profit performing organization, founded in 1979. The organization is a leading presenter of professional touring productions direct from Broadway, establishing Des Moines as a top destination for world-class productions on their first national tours. In addition to the top-rated Willis Broadway Series at the Civic Center, Des Moines Performing Arts has expanded its programming to include The Dance Series, The Temple Comedy Series, and the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Family Series. The organization is also responsible for operating the Stoner Theater, Temple Theater, and Cowles Commons. Supported by nearly 7,000 contributors/donors, they have a special Applause Series that provides educational opportunities for area students. With an annual attendance of more than 350,000 visitors, Des Moines Performing Arts contributes a significant $32 million annually to Iowa's economy.
