CÚRAM, Research Ireland Centre for Medical Devices is a multidisciplinary research center focusing on R&D in the medical device sector. Supported by Science Foundation Ireland and industry partners, CÚRAM is enhancing Ireland’s position as a major hub for the global medical devices industry.
The center's academic-industry-clinician led approach enables the development of innovative, technical, and transformative solutions for the medical devices industry. With over 200 researchers engaged, CÚRAM is dedicated to creating implantable ‘smart’ devices that react to the body’s environment and administer therapeutic agents precisely where they are needed.
CÚRAM targets chronic ailments such as soft tissue and wound healing, cardiovascular, neural, renal, pulmonary, ophthalmology, and musculoskeletal diseases by focusing on core research capabilities in biomaterials, drug delivery, cell therapy, glycosciences, and device design. The ultimate goal is to provide affordable transformative solutions for chronic diseases.
The research center boasts world-class facilities including device design, biomaterials manufacturing, physicochemical drug analysis, National Biophotonics Imaging Platform (NBIP), Center for Cell Manufacturing Ireland, GMP manufacturing, and clinical research and trial facilities.
Established in 2015 and headquartered in Ireland, CÚRAM is an innovative force in the medical devices space, making valuable contributions to the industry.
