Communities In Schools of Memphis (CISM) is a part of the national Communities In Schools (CIS) network, renowned as the leading and most effective dropout prevention organization in America. Founded in 2014, CISM's mission is to surround students with a community of support to empower them to stay in school and achieve in life. The organization focuses on addressing non-academic barriers that hinder student success in the classroom, such as hunger, lack of parental involvement, homelessness, and exposure to violence and drugs. In collaboration with the Achievement School District and Shelby County Schools, CISM provides and brokers daily school-based interventions to students in grades Kâ12, addressing academic failure, truancy, behavioral issues, and social service needs. This initiative is crucial in decreasing the dropout rate and increasing on-time graduation rates, making CISM a significant player in the Education industry.
