City Year UK

City Year UK is a youth social action charity that was founded in 1991 with the core mission of tackling educational inequality through voluntary mentoring. The organization challenges 18 to 25-year-olds to dedicate a year of full-time voluntary service as mentors, tutors, and role models in schools situated in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the United Kingdom.

The City Year experience not only makes a significant impact on the lives of the children they work with but also serves as a catalyst for the personal and professional growth of the diverse young volunteers. Originating in Boston, Massachusetts in 1988, City Year now operates in 27 cities across America and Johannesburg in South Africa, with its UK arm launching in London in 2010 and subsequently expanding to the West Midlands and Greater Manchester.
