CarbonPool is a Swiss-based startup offering innovative carbon removal and accidental emissions insurance, paying in kind through carbon removals rather than cash. The company addresses the challenges of achieving NetZero commitments by providing in-kind insurance for potential shortfalls, reversals, business interruptions, and natural catastrophes. With a team of experts including insurance leaders, climate scientists, weather modelers, geographers, and engineers, CarbonPool assesses each risk to create bespoke risk models. The premiums collected from clients, along with the startup's own capital, are invested in high-quality carbon removal projects to facilitate payout in-kind. Currently, CarbonPool is in the process of obtaining a Swiss regulated (re)insurance license and can pre-underwrite exposures. In January 2024, the startup completed a Seed Round investment of Fr.10.50M with backing from Revent, Vorwerk Ventures, Heartcore, HCS Capital Partners, Axel Theis, and Christof Mascher.
