British Sugar

British Sugar is a key player in the UK's sugar production, boasting a slogan of "Producing over 50% of the UK's sugar from homegrown sugar beet grown by 2,300 farmers." Operating from four advanced manufacturing plants across East Anglia and the East Midlands, the company supports approximately 7,000 jobs in the wider UK economy through direct and indirect employment of around 1,200 staff. In addition to a substantial workforce, British Sugar also places importance on nurturing talent, having recruited and trained over 80 graduates and 50 apprentices in the last decade.

With over 2,300 growers supplying the factories with approximately 8 million tonnes of sugar beet annually, British Sugar processes this into up to 1.2 million tonnes of sugar. However, they don't stop at just sugar production; the company takes a highly integrated approach, transforming raw materials into a range of sustainable products, including 500,000 tonnes of animal feed and the production of Bioethanol, clearly demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and diversification.

Over the past five years, British Sugar has made significant investments, exceeding £300m, in their manufacturing plants to enhance efficiency and productivity, focusing on locations such as Bury St Edmunds, Cantley, Newark, and Wissington.
