Black Girls Dive Foundation, Inc

The Black Girls Dive (BGD) Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded by citizens concerned about the number of swimming fatalities in the African American community. The mission of BGD Foundation is, “Keeping young girls and women afloat.” The organization is operated by volunteers and a cadre of dedicated Board of Directors. The BGD Foundation inspires young girls and women to step outside of their comfort zones to explore aquatic-based recreational activities and career opportunities in the fields of underwater archeology, Maritime Archeology, Oceanographic Studies and Marine Sciences. Using an integrated STREAM (Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, The Arts and Mathematics) curriculum, BGD Foundation sparks curiosity, builds confidence and leadership skills, and improves student success. Through scholarships, young girls complete swimming and scuba diving and apply these learned skills to various aquatic learning activities, such as underwater archeology, Oceanographic Studies and ocean conservation.
