Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, Inc was founded in 2003 and has since established itself as a notable player in the Food and Beverage industry. The company started as a grassroots initiative, roasting organic and Fair Trade Coffee in a sublet restaurant kitchen and selling it at farmer’s markets and through home-delivery service. In 2006, they opened a retail shop directly across the street from a Starbucks, a strategic move that showcased their confidence in their product. They shifted to a Direct Trade buying model in 2007, focusing on establishing long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with farming partners at origin, which sets them apart in the industry. Their dedication to quality has been acknowledged through numerous awards, including being named the National Micro-Roaster of the Year 2012, as well as receiving accolades for over 25 of their coffees. Additionally, they have garnered local recognition, winning best organic coffee in 2008 San Diego Magazine and being rated the best coffee shop in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 in the La Jolla Light.
