Bay Area Country Dance Society

Bay Area Country Dance Society (BACDS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1980 with a mission to preserve and promote traditional community dance forms in the San Francisco Bay Area. The dance forms include English country dance, American contra dance, morris and longsword dance. BACDS hosts an impressive lineup of activities, running approximately 17 dances a month, three weeklong residential summer dance camps, two residential weekend camps, a non-residential weekend camp, and various special events and workshops. It is noteworthy that while BACDS compensates teachers, musicians, and sound technicians, the organization itself is entirely facilitated by volunteers.
