Austin Film Society (AFS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1985 by filmmaker Richard Linklater. AFS aims to empower the community to MAKE, WATCH, and LOVE film and creative media. The organization supports filmmakers by providing grants and support services, thus catalyzing Austin and Texas as a creative hub. AFS operates Austin Studios, a 20-acre production facility, to nurture the creative media ecosystem. Additionally, Austin Public provides an avenue for the city’s diverse mediamakers to receive training and collaborate, thus enabling access to filmmaking and film careers. The AFS Cinema is an ambitiously programmed repertory and first-run arthouse that actively engages the community. Furthermore, AFS organizes premieres, local and international industry events, and the Texas Film Awards, showcasing and connecting Texas filmmakers with the wider film community.
AFS has been successful in creating life-changing opportunities for filmmakers and bringing the community together around great film. Amid the dynamic landscape of the entertainment and media industries, AFS stands out as an organization that not only supports exceptional artistic projects but also plays a pivotal role in shaping the cultural and creative landscape of Austin and Texas.
