Amani Global Works (AGW) is a healthcare startup with the mission of saving lives in the Great Lakes region of Africa. Founded in 2010, AGW focuses on providing comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable primary healthcare and related services to underserved communities in the most remote regions of Africa. The startup has established an integrated primary healthcare system on Idjwi Island in the DRC, comprising a fully equipped 150-bed hospital, regional clinics, and training and supervising paid community health workers (CHWs).
The system aims to provide dignified care to the community, with a focus on decreasing child and maternal mortality and improving overall health outcomes in Idjwi. AGW achieves this by providing access to free and low-cost proven treatments, services, and programs, and addressing community health concerns such as nutrition, agriculture, and education.
The core belief of Amani Global Works is that no matter how isolated a community is, its people should have access to basic, lifesaving healthcare. In January 2021, the startup received a Seed Round investment from Praxis.
